Free Food for All Soup Kitchen - Mondays at Noon

Kate Serves MultitudesEvery Monday at Noon at the OCP: Free for anyone in the world.  This is a cooperative community meal open to participation by all.  We start cooking at 10am, eat family-style at noon, and clean up til 2.  Come on down for a great meal and a fun time, not to mention horseshoes and volleyball.  Soup Kitchen will no longer be held at the Little Grill (starting July 7, 2008).  See photos here of the last one at Little Grill and at Flickr for the first one at OCP.

Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Festival – July 25, 2009

How can you get some exercise, support a local non-profit, and experience some of the most beautiful countryside in America?  The 18th Annual Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Festival!  This Bike Fest offers a wide variety of options for both the beginner and the more experienced rider.  Rides range from the 5-mile family-friendly ride through downtown Harrisonburg to the 100 mile Century Ride over the rolling roads of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.  Registration includes great food, rest stops, ride maps, mechanical support, drinks, shower facilities . . and . . a Bike Fest t-shirt!  The rides start and finish at Our Community Place.  Registration involves a suggested donation of $20, which is tax-deductible.  It goes up to $25 after July 15th.  All proceeds support Our Community Place and The Free Food For All Soup Kitchen.

Maps of the rides together with cue sheets are now available at the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition.  And we've got recommended lodging (http://www.ourcommunityplace.net/lodging/) for you.  The Shenandoah Bicycle Company has tossed in 10% off parts and accessories, while Clementine's Cafe offers free dessert to riders--while televizing the final stage of the Tour de France downstairs.
