About Our Community Place

Volleyball on Thanksgiving Day 2011Our Community Place at 17 E Johnson St is a community center welcoming everyone in the world.  Our primary goal is to build community, breaking down traditional social barriers through cooperative community meals, shared activities, and work.

Centered around our cooperative community meal at noon, we’re open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9am to 2pm offering a range of classes, activities, discussions, projects and games.

Recognizing the power of meaningful work and the need for community ownership in the upkeep of the property and our role in the neighborhood, we open on Tuesdays specifically for work projects (also from 9am-2pm).  Anyone who wishes to participate is welcome and lunch is provided for the workers.

On Thursdays we host special events in the evening (movies, speakers, workshops, music, and more).  We're open from 3pm to 8pm, with our cooperative community meal at 5pm and special events from 6-8pm.

Everyone is welcome:

Jew or Gentile, Slave or Free, Educated or Illiterate, Poor or Rich, Homeless or Housed, Employed or Unemployed, Children and Adults, … everyone!

Come join (Y)Our Community Place!
